Whispering Creek Golf Club was established in 1967, then called Havenhurst. The 18-hole, par 72 course, which was originally designed by golf architect Robert Beard, is located on roughly 140 acres running along the Maumee River.  After four local investors purchased the golf course, formerly known as Maumee Valley, they decided that necessary updates have to be made. New personnel will be hired, and GPS-equipped golf carts and maintenance equipment will be purchased. In the future, tee stations will be improved, rain shelters built and all bridges will be redone. Also, some of the holes will be reworked, and a pond will be added. The clubhouse's large fieldstone fireplace is in good shape and will be used as a starting point for interior remodeling. They also plan to put in a nice deck overlooking hole number 18 where anyone can enjoy lunch or a drink. Besides the course, Whispering Creek, boasts a pro shop, snack bar, and banquet hall.

As the 2011 golf season nears its end, exciting new things are happening at Whispering Creek.  The weather this year was not kind to the golf course, but out of the flooding has come some wonderful improvements, most notably the complete restructuring and rebuilding of the 17^th green complex.  The course is progressing nicely, and will be fine by the time play begins in 2012.

As we look back on the year that passed, I would like to congratulate Club Champion Mark Beneke on defending his title in 2011 with a two-shot victory over runner-up Brent Murphy.  Ladies Club Champion Donna Loveless also successfully defended her title, with Janell Hughes winning again in the Net Division.  Bob Lough won the Club Match Play championship, which was delayed til the late summer because of course conditions.  Congratulations to all of the champions, and thanks to all who participated!
